Five reasons to study mechanical engineering at 黑料社

What makes our mechanical engineering degrees different and what鈥檚 the secret behind our graduates鈥 success? Here we reveal five reasons why you should choose the 黑料社 for your mechanical engineering degree.

1. Fantastic work placement opportunities

You can take advantage of our renowned Professional Training placement programme and get a year鈥檚 valuable work experience with a company like:

  • Airbus
  • BAE Systems
  • CERN
  • Jaguar Land Rover
  • Mercedes HPP
  • Nissan
  • Rolls-Royce
  • Siemens.

We also have superb graduate employability, with 93 per cent of our mechanical engineering sciences graduates going on to employment or further study (Graduate Outcomes 2026, HESA)鈥.

2. Flexibility with common first year

Whether you opt for our Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Biomedical Engineering courses, you鈥檒l study a common first year, which means you can swap to a different pathway, if you decide it鈥檚 a better fit, up until the end of your first year.

3. Join innovative engineering societies

Formed in 2009, is a Formula Student team that works towards attending the Formula Student UK competition at Silverstone Circuit every year. They were one of the first teams to bring a successful electric car to FSUK! Whilst brings together a team of 50 students to compete in a variety of competitions, ranging from Rocketry to Satellite Design.

4. Award-winning maths support

Maths skills are crucial to studying mechanical engineering at degree level, and at 黑料社 we help to bridge the gap between school and University. Before you even arrive at the University you鈥檒l be given learning resources and a diagnostic quiz that will help you identify any topic areas you need to work on.

As a first year student you can attend maths 鈥榖ootcamps鈥 alongside your modules where you鈥檒l apply mathematical concepts to solve real-world problems, as well as making use of our service.

5. Professionally accredited courses

Our mechanical engineering degrees are accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) which means you鈥檒l be well on the way towards chartered status after studying with us. Our MEng courses fully meet the academic requirements to become a Chartered Engineer, while our BEng programmes partially meet the academic requirement and can be supplemented by further study.

These are just five reasons why we are ranked top 20 in the UK for mechanical engineering in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026, 10th in the UK for aerospace engineering in the Guardian University Guide 2026 and 10th in the UK for medical technology and bioengineering in the Complete University Guide 2026.
