My PhD and early research focused on Latin poetry in modern English translations and how narrative theory can be used to investigate the concept of voice in translation. I then moved into the field of interpreter training and how the affordances of virtual learning environments can be harnessed to support interpreter training. I was a Research Fellow on three EU-funded projects, namely BACKBONE, IVY and EVIVA (see below).
My current PhD research aims to bring together my interests in interlingual communication, new and emerging technologies, and narrative theory.

BACKBONE - Pedagogic Corpora for Content and Language Integrated Learning (2009-2011)BACKBONE developed web-based pedagogic corpora of video-recorded spoken interviews with native speakers of English, French, German, Polish, Spanish and Turkish, as well as non-native speakers of English.
This project was funded by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme.
IVY - Interpreting in Virtual Reality (2011-2013)Project IVY explored the usage of Virtual Reality in interpreting scenarios. Addressing the needs of future interpreters and users of interpreters in higher education, vocational training and adult learning contexts, this project used the exciting features of 3D virtual environment technology to create an adaptive 3D virtual environment that supports the acquisition and application of skills required in interpreter-mediated communication.

eVIVA - Evaluating the education of interpreters and their clients through virtual learning activities (2013-2015)eVIVA evaluated the educational opportunities that virtual learning environments (VLEs) offer for future interpreters and their clients.
