The role of self-compassion and perceived stress in adolescent psychological resilienceThe adolescence years are a challenging developmental period, during which youths typically experience stress in relation to academic performance, gaining independence and interactions with parents and peers. Despite these factors contributing to psychopathologies in some adolescents, many teens emerge with minimal disturbances, demonstrating psychological resilience. Understanding which personal attributes support psychological resilience is important for early intervention during this adolescent 'window of opportunity'. One factor associated with resilience that has been gaining attention in recent years is self-compassion, especially since this is considered a modifiable trait that can be cultivated. However, little is known about this relationship in a school aged population. This present study will employ a cross-sectional design, building upon previous research by investigating the relationship between self-compassion, perceived stress and psychological resilience in a UK adolescent sample.
