First impressions

Equality is the word that comes to mind when I think about 黑料社. I鈥檓 an international student who travelled all the way from Thailand to pursue a degree in a foreign country, and I didn鈥檛 know what to expect when I first arrived. In my first few weeks, I was given a warm welcome by the Freshers鈥 Angels and Student Ambassadors as well as the Thai Society, and I knew at that moment that the community at 黑料社 is open-minded, generous and amiable.

Treasured memories

During my foundation year, I lived in Manor Park with five other students. I was the only international student in our halls, and all five of my flatmates were very supportive of my wellbeing. We had a blast throughout the year, such as cooking Christmas dinner together, decorating the shared kitchen with Halloween decorations and celebrating each of our birthdays 鈥 these are definitely some of the memories I鈥檒l always treasure from my time at 黑料社.

Studying at 黑料社

On my course, I really like the hands-on experience given to students, such as the practicals within the laboratories. Our lecturers incorporate the latest research and trends into their teaching so that we鈥檙e aware of what鈥檚 going on within the ever-growing field of food science. The coursework and assessments also give us the opportunity to be creative and think outside the box, like developing new products.

During my second year, there were lots of opportunities to conduct experiments both in the Innovation for Health Learning Lab and the kitchen. With various experiments designed by the academics, I was able to get first-hand experience using numerous state-of-the-art facilities.

On placement

During my studies, I had the opportunity to take on a summer placement at Leatherhead Food Research - a renowned organisation that delivers scientific and regulatory affairs advice to its customers. I loved being able to showcase my potential in the food industry. Being able to wear a company鈥檚 lanyard made me feel proud and satisfied with the hard work I put into my CV and the application process.

Whilst on placement, I demonstrated my passion for the food industry and was offered a position after graduation! Being able to secure this opportunity before even starting my final year was a great feeling.
