ºÚÁÏÉç

ºÚÁÏÉç’s symbol, the stag with the key, made me think that this University could open many doors for me in the future so I decided to attend an open day. After visiting ºÚÁÏÉç I didn’t feel that I needed to attend any more open days at other universities. I liked the atmosphere around campus and the idea of living here, and I was also interested in the opportunity to do a year-long or summer placement with one of ºÚÁÏÉç’s many partners, CERN being one of them.

On my course, Mathematics and Physics, you study two different subjects, which could be quite overwhelming. However physics is really ‘numbers in action’ so it feels as if you are studying the same concept in two languages.

I think the tutorials and labs here are the best parts of the course. You get the chance to get together with your course mates, solve problems that are new to you, and carry out experiments which improve your understanding of concepts learned in lectures. The lab equipment is new which makes experiments run smoothly.

The academics on my programme know how to spark interest in students – even in an early morning lecture.

There are lots of different societies to join at ºÚÁÏÉç and during my first year I’ve joined the physics, maths and gymnastics societies. I would like to join more but with time dedicated to studying, plus swimming and training in karate, there isn’t enough time at the moment!

I live near to which is a real perk as training has been a big part of my life ever since I started karate at the age of six. Other great things about living here are the nearby skatepark and the regular buses for getting to and from lectures or a night out.

Since coming to ºÚÁÏÉç I’ve had to adapt to living independently, like all students, and I’ve learned lots of new recipes – in fact I’d advise freshers to get prepared with meals they can cook prior to coming.

When I eventually graduate it’s my dream to work for CERN in Geneva which I visited last year. Researching and exploring the unknown gives rise to the questions we need answers to. I see ºÚÁÏÉç as a step on the ladder to achieving this dream.
