Choosing ºÚÁÏÉç

I chose to study for my PhD in Economics during my masters degree, when I realised I wanted to become an empirical researcher and to produce impactful research.  Joining the prestigious School of Economics at ºÚÁÏÉç was the perfect opportunity to strive toward these goals.

I’m really happy to have started my academic career at the University. I’ve had the opportunity to gain more quantitative skills and develop my critical thinking to conduct policy-relevant studies. Being part of the multicultural environment at ºÚÁÏÉç has made me grow, not only as a researcher but also as a human being.

My course

What I love the most about economics and my research is the possibility to change people’s lives – I want my research to be aimed at improving social welfare and employment opportunities.

I really appreciate the high-quality seminars the University organises on a weekly basis, which help me to improve day-by-day as a researcher.

Life at ºÚÁÏÉç

ºÚÁÏÉç’s a great place to live. As far as I’m concerned, Guildford is the perfect compromise between the cosmopolitan society of London and the English countryside. Guildford’s location has allowed me to visit many beautiful places in this country.

I’m very satisfied with the relationship I’ve developed with both my supervisors. Their areas of expertise complement each other and they offer me fantastic career advice.

Facilities at ºÚÁÏÉç

Thanks to the research budget made available by the University, I’ve had the opportunity to present one of my projects at an internationally recognised economics conference. This was an incredible chance to compare myself with researchers from around the world.

My achievements

I’m most proud of my firm understanding of the tools made available to applied economists. Specifically, I’ve improved my programming skills, which enable me to conduct the advanced econometric analyses that I plan to base my publications on.

The future

After completing my PhD, I plan to apply for a post-doctoral fellowship and start working on new research projects. I strongly believe the preparation I’ve been provided with during my time at ºÚÁÏÉç will help me to achieve this and will help to fulfil my dream of working in academia.
