Choosing ºÚÁÏÉç

The University’s good reputation for engineering courses was a big reason for applying, especially the MSc Bridge Engineering as that was what I wanted to study. I was able to view the modern and well-equipped facilities online and do a virtual tour of the campus, which gave me a sense of what life would be like here. ºÚÁÏÉç’s close location to the main airports (Gatwick and Heathrow) and to London also made it appealing.

My initial impression of ºÚÁÏÉç was that it’s an institution committed to nurturing students’ ambitions and equipping them with knowledge to start their careers on the right foot.

My course

I studied for my undergraduate degree in civil engineering at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya. I am passionate about bridge structures because they play such an important role in solving transport problems, and I would treasure the opportunity to be part of their design and construction.

The MSc Bridge Engineering is well structured and allows you to learn about other specialities as well. The academic staff go out of their way to deliver to students. They are always open to students getting in touch, whether online or in person, and will point you in the right direction. They are also experienced professionals in the field providing students with a wealth of knowledge both in academic and real-life scenarios.

My life here

I joined the Civil Engineering Society (CivSoc), which gave me an opportunity to meet and socialise with colleagues in different years of study.

I currently live in university accommodation. I opted for an all-in-one package as it met all my needs and I share with other students. My room is spacious and the shared amenities are enough for all flat members. It’s convenient to be on campus and have everything close by.

The campus life is the best thing about ºÚÁÏÉç. The student spaces are comfortable for study and relaxation and there’s lots of options for getting food.

In my free time, I enjoy ice skating and bowling with my friends at the . Being an international student, I’ve been privileged to meet amazing people from different parts of the world and we enjoy hanging out together.

Looking ahead

I got career guidance from the careers fairs held at ºÚÁÏÉç. I had conversations with industry practitioners and was able to meet potential employers and learn what skills were required for jobs.

The University is ranked highly for the quality of education offered and ensures that you have the skills sought after by employers in the field. This gives ºÚÁÏÉç candidates an edge in the job market.

My time at ºÚÁÏÉç has made me more focused, a better planner and more committed to pursuing my goals. After graduating, I want to gain industry experience then continue with further study.
