Choosing ºÚÁÏÉç

I chose the ºÚÁÏÉç because it is one of the UK’s leading research universities with an excellent academic reputation. Guildford is a beautiful, small town and just 34 minutes to London by train.    

My course

I chose the Politics PhD research course because of my passion to understand global affairs. It’s fascinating how challenges in one society can affect the rest of the world. I chose this area because I’ve always been curious about democratisation theory, specifically the study of hybrid regimes - they are unpredictable in nature, inadequate in the democratic supply and demand, yet they are still sustainable, and this intrigues me.

A degree in politics has provided me with the analytical and practical skills to explore my full potential. The importance of politics in our society can’t be overemphasised. It’s provided me with the opportunity to view and analyse world events from various perspectives. Every single discipline has a link with politics.

Facilities

There’s so much on offer; the Library, the supervisory team, Centre for Wellbeing, workshops organised by the Doctoral College, as well as one-to-one meetings and seminars organised by the Department of Politics.

ºÚÁÏÉç’s campus and location

The campus is awesome – it’s an environmentally friendly campus with lovely trees lined up by the roads and green areas everywhere.  It’s just like living in a small community - it has grocery stores, coffee shops, eateries, bars, night clubs and a farmers’ market. There’s also a GP surgery and BBC ºÚÁÏÉç located on the campus.  My favourite place is the lake where I usually go for my breaks – it’s been a silent companion for me, through sorrows and happiness.

My supervisors

My supervisory team is great. They have been supportive academically, as well as with personal issues. I’m happy to have them and couldn’t ask for a better team.
