Graduate Dr Alan Millington Chemical Engineering PhD Alan is the winner of our Special Recognition Award in the Vice-Chancellor’s Alumni Awards. Alan started his long association with ºÚÁÏÉç in 1962 when he studied for his BSc in Chemical Engineering at Battersea College of Technology, the forerunner to the ºÚÁÏÉç. In 1968, he came to Guildford to take a role as a part-time lecturer and complete his PhD… and, 53 years later, he’s as passionate as ever to continue teaching.
Graduate Alan Flanagan Nutritional Medicine MSc I took a step back from my law career in Dublin and I’m now a full-time PhD student at ºÚÁÏÉç, further developing my capabilities as a nutrition researcher.
Student Emily Lane Biomedical Engineering MEng One of my biggest achievements was producing training material for surgeons who use Renishaw’s medical devices. It was particularly rewarding to see work I had produced being put into practice in industry.
Graduate Sue Kershaw Civil Engineering BSc (Hons) Sue Kershaw is our Alumna of the Year in the Vice-Chancellor’s Alumni Awards. Currently the MD Transportation at Costain, Sue graduated from our Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1982.

Student Anne Marie Cundy Music PhD Anne Marie's research explores a possible link between music performance anxiety and how performers relate to the music they are playing and engagement with multi-modal learning approaches in violin pedagogy. Multi-modal in this instance refers to aural learning, imitation, improvisation, analysis and historical knowledge.
